STRATEGIST · ADVISOR · FOUNDER OF DRINK POSITIVE
Strategy and ideas for the business of human connection.
Twenty years inside the global drinks industry, working with the brands, venues and institutions to build what comes next.
Hospitality is social infrastructure.
After twenty years in this industry, I am more certain than ever about the answer. Social health is an emerging third pillar of human wellbeing alongside physical and mental health. It is formed and fractured in social spaces.
The uplift you feel in a room full of people. The quiet hum of a busy café. The energy of a packed bar at 9 pm.
Émile Durkheim first described collective effervescence in 1912, and over a century later, neuroscience has caught up: the human nervous system is designed for it.
Now, more than ever, we need social spaces and places that facilitate this.
We need social infrastructure.
My work supports the people who create these spaces, and the brands that operate within them, to do so more intentionally.
The Framework
Collective effervescence doesn’t happen by accident.
It emerges when the key conditions are thoughtfully shaped.
My work is guided by a simple framework that brings together three interwoven disciplines.
